Urine culture

Procedure for the collection of a urine culture:

1 Use a sterile container (mandatory) to collect your sample at home. This same container may be used if you also have a urine analysis to do on your prescription: One container for both tests.

Note that home sterilization is not recommended as it often needs re-testing. This considerably increases waiting time for test results, which in turn delays treatment in the case of infection.

2 Before collecting sample, carefully clean penis or vulva with a clean, damp washcloth without soap.

3 Collect your sample in the morning approximately 30 minutes before your appointment. Do not collect your sample during the night. 50 ml is a sufficient quantity.

Important: Do not collect the 2 or 3 first seconds of stream. Place sample in a ziploc (sealable) bag for transportation (optional).
